Understairs Ink was born in a small studio space tucked under a staircase in Maroubra, NSW. That’s where artist and founder Robson Santos got his start. Sketching tattoo ideas and practicing on fake skins, spending countless late nights honing his craft, all in an effort to build the confidence to turn his ambition into action.

Robson made the leap into the professional world, starting his career in a studio in Marrickville, NSW. There, he learned the ropes, refined his style, and cemented himself in the industry.

Today, Understairs Ink is more than just Robson. It’s a shared vision with close friend and business partner Denis Carlotti. Together, they’ve built a creative space for artists to flourish and define their own style and taste. We believe in bold personalities and even bolder art. A studio with the ethos that tattoos are inherently an extension of who we are.

Based out of the heart of the Inner West in St Peters, NSW, we embrace the underground energy with a whole lot of heart to match. We’re open to fresh ideas, new collaborators, and always honest and meaningful art.
